The Glob

The Story Of The Service

A bright orange caravan with a practical purpose.

The Glob is the mobile face of Lions My Free Health Check: a rural health screening service shaped around access, trust, and community presence.

What started with Agri HQ has grown into a Lions-led service that can turn up where people already are and make health checks easier to access.

The newer caravan is based in Feilding, while the original Glob now supports communities in Taranaki from Okato.

Background

How The Glob came together

The Lions My Free Health Check provides a health screening service delivered by the Lions Clubs of District 202D. This covers an area from New Plymouth to Foxton with 34 clubs and around 1000 members.

The project was originally set up by Agri-HQ, a media company based in Feilding. Because Agri HQ works closely with rural communities and attends many rural events, they recognised a practical opportunity to bring health screening directly to those communities.

In 2020 they decided to set up a "My Health Check" service. They purchased a caravan and converted it into a mobile medical screening facility with a separate consulting room. The caravan was painted bright orange and is affectionately known as "The Glob".

In June 2021, Agri HQ gifted Zone One District 202D the Glob. They recognised that NZ Lions is respected in the community, has a club in most New Zealand towns, and includes many members with strong ties to farming communities.

In November 2024, Glob One was upgraded to a younger caravan, Glob Two. Glob Two is based in Feilding, while Glob One has been relocated to Okato to serve communities in Taranaki.

A third Lions screening service, known as Archie, now also operates out of Ashburton and is provided by Lions members in District 202J.
